advertisement , dieting.

advertisements that focus on getting people to loose weight has grown over the years time, these specific  types of advertisement personally, I feel can be effective but also over whelming sometimes you know? I know pretty sure I am not the only one that has been up at 3:00am or 4:00am in the morning and was starving, and when you finally decide to fix yourself a snack and the commercial about loosing weight or exercising come on and makes you feel terrible lol, but I guess that's the POINT huh ? I know that they purposely have theses kinds of advertisement at the time of night/day because they feel those times are the best time to reach their targeted group of people, which are most likely people who are over weight or occasionally gets "late night snacks".

of course these advertisement are here to help "everyone" but I don't think they are meant just for everyone. they mostly target women and personally, they normally are showing overweight women loosing weight to look like models basically. and making women who don't look like that, feel as  though they need to change their appearance don't get me wrong, advocating health is a wonderful thing, but not everyone has to look like they did when they were much younger. This may very well not be advertisements intentions, they are just trying to get their product out their and make money, but this is the case sometimes. advertisement fall right into the category of persuading, and when trying to persuade their potential buyers they use  famous actors such as Jenifer Hudson , Oprah Winfrey, Kelly Clarkston & many more to advocates for them. they use this method of advertisement because people look up to actors and actresses and want to be like them, and some will buy their product only because they saw them advocating thins product.

the united states spent 100 million on advertisement for dieters,   20 billion for the annual revenue of the U.S weight loss industry, there are 108 million people on diets in the united states. dieters usually make four or five attempts a  a year. and 85 percent of costumers consuming weight loss products are female. people in this generation and before  this generation , will do anything to fix there self and when they have the money for it, just makes it easier for them to make these changes towards themselves, whether its because of these advertisments or other social media making them feel like they need to make that change, that includes surgery, diet products, diet books ect. 220,000 is the number of people with morbid obesity in the united states who have had bariatric surgey in 2009.
33,000 is the amount of money celebrity endorsers earn a average, earn per pound lost. 11,500 to 26,000 the average cost salaries paid by celebs endorsers of major weight loss programs.

I want to leave you guys with these questions...does advertisement motivate you to want to be healthy? or does is make you feel less beautiful when you don't look like those results? and will you do anything to change your self, when you are already created so wonderfully made? -joy

instagram and social visualization

This entry is a reflection on media being a agent of socialization. for media I chose Instagram as a topic. and how it effects todays society good and bad. there are many websites and apps that we all are into such as facebook, twitter, pinterest and many more that we are consumed in. instagram looks to be the leader of social visualization, but it depends on what we are looking  for.  I don't believe its just about posting pictures, viewing and sharing is just as important as creating. there are also daily quotes on their that basically tell you how you should think or act, what skin color is the best, how you should treat people depending on how they look.  most people are familiar with the saying" a picture is worth a thousand words" and in social media, a statement like this certainly has is place. many people would much rather show you what they are doing than to tell you, does anyone agree? but I said all that to say the problem can come in when looking at those pictures and quotes, and living by them and letting them effect your everyday life, and how you view yourself and others.

the socialization process can be very dramatic to someone's life. to me  the culture of instagram  emphasizes alooot of things from how to dress, sexual content , violence and many more.you can also be introduced  and learn different norms and are introduced to a whole different world by meeting people and seeing visual things in mass media. personally I have had to retreat from instagram  because unconsciously I started to feed into everything. I started dressing different and looking at life in a very different way, and on top of growing up and naturally seeing things differently this was effecting me in a negative way. others can be effected negatively because they are going to want to be accepted by the society and want to fit in. this is where media can become a major problem upon other things.

not all things from social media are negative or have a negative effect. it  can help to be more diverse, learn about whats going on in different cultures. it can help you learn things you did not know.. only if they are true lol. I most time appreciate media in many different ways and enjoy engaging on every app on my phone, and I know everyone can agree to that. I just want us to be careful what we let affect us and how we let it affect us ... well ttyl class ! -joy
