In the united states today, six media conglomeration control almost all forms of mainstream media. According to Bernie Sanders, this violates the core principle American government as “we cannot live in a vibrant democracy unless people get divergent sources of information.” To also had this problem, Bernie has consistently BUSTED media conglomerates on their dishonest practices. He has fought for affordable cable television prices, supports net neutrality, and wants to protect and encourage independent news sources across all media platforms.
sanders have spoken out against the conglomeration, ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=77V2Xu_AtXc) if you guys didn't know, the united states broadcasting and telecommunication services in the united states are largely controlled by six corporate conglomerates: Disney, CBS, News Corp., Viacom, Time Warner, and Comcast.
Berni Sanders argues that the current situation does not abide by the rules of the "pillars of freedom of speech and the freedom of press that was guaranteed by the amendment , in his actual words he clearly states that “In my view, it will be very dangerous for our country and communities around America when one company is able to own a local newspaper, television station and radio station. Opposing points of view won’t be heard and our democracy will suffer.”
he feels as though he has fought long and hard about consistently opposing the media consolidation including, also voting again the Telecommunications, and says that each time the FFC has tried to weaken media ownership regulations, Berni has been on the front line fighting for stronger protection for diversity in media. he also has consistently fought to maintain the Internet as an affordable service with free access.(<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.co)
Personally, I have not been this aware of politics and their views on media since this class, learning politicians views on the media really does give me a broader view on things, even my personal opinion on things we have learned in class, I don't agree with everything that he has said, but I am happy that he does see things we need to change and he is willing to make the change. adding on the sanders view on things, what are other ways he could think of that would benefit in the long run?
What exactly did Bernie Sanders really do for the urban community? He has argued against most of what President Obama stands for, I am really surprised that he is democrat. But I feel the diversoty in television has come a very long way. I also agree that I did not follow politics regarding television until this course as well.
